چکیده
We report on the XMM-Newton observations of the 143 ms pulsar PSR J0538+2817. We present evidence for the first detections of pulsed X-rays from the source at a frequency which is consistent with the predicted radio frequency. The pulse profile is broad and asymmetric, with a pulse fraction of 18 ± 3%. We find that the spectrum of the source is well-fit with a blackbody with T ∞ = (2.12 +0.04 −0.03) × 10 6 K and N H = 2.5×10 21 cm −2. The radius determined from the model fit of 1.68 ± 0.05 km suggests that the emission is from a heated polar cap. A fit to the spectrum with an atmospheric model reduces the inferred temperature and hence increases the radius of the emitting region, however the pulsar distance determined from the fit is then smaller than the dispersion distance.

We report on the XMM-Newton observations of the young, 102 ms pulsar PSR B1706-44. We have found that both a blackbody plus power-law and a magnetized atmospheric model plus power-law provide an excellent fit to the EPIC spectra. The two scenarios are therefore indistinguishable on a statistical basis, although we are inclined to prefer the latter on physical grounds. In this case, assuming a s...
متن کاملDeep Xmm-newton Spectroscopic and Timing Observations of the Isolated Radio Millisecond Pulsar Psr J0030+0451
We present deep XMM-Newton EPIC spectroscopic and timing X-ray observations of the nearby solitary radio millisecond pulsar, PSR J0030+0451. Its emission spectrum in the 0.1–10 keV range is found to be remarkably similar to that of the nearest and best studied millisecond pulsar, PSR J0437–4715, being well described by a predominantly thermal two-temperature model plus a faint hard tail evident...

The EPIC pn CCD camera on board of XMM-Newton is designed to perform high throughput imaging and spectroscopy as well as high resolution timing observations in the energy range of 0.1–15keV. A temporal resolution of milliseconds or μ-seconds, depending on the instrument mode and detector, is outstanding for CCD based X-ray cameras. In order to calibrate the different observing modes of the EPIC...

We report on diffuse X-ray emission associated with the nearby solitary millisecond pulsar PSR J2124−3358 detected with XMM-Newton and Chandra. The emission extends from the pulsar to the northwest by ∼ 0.5 arcmin. The spectrum of the nebular emission can be modeled with a power-law of photon index 2.2 ± 0.4, in line with the emission originating from accelerated particles in the post shock flo...
